Associate
Brooke E. Priestas is an associate in our ERISA and Employee Benefits practice group. She provides strategic counsel to employers regarding all aspects of employee benefits matters. This includes working with single-employer and multiemployer clients to establish and maintain qualified retirement plans and health and welfare plans in compliance with federal laws including ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, PPACA, and the Internal Revenue Code. She regularly assists clients with drafting and amending benefit plan trust agreements, plan documents, and summary plan descriptions.
In addition to working with employers, Brooke assists plan service providers, including third-party administrators, benefit consultants, and insurance carriers, regarding plan design and administration, fiduciary duties, reporting and filing requirements, and corrections procedures to maintain tax-qualified status. She has additional experience working on taxation matters for non-profits as well as related compliance matters for pension and health plans, non-profits, and labor unions.
Brooke received her J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law and earned an LL.M. in Tax from Georgetown University Law Center. While attending law school, she served as a student attorney and research assistant for the Janet R. Spragens Federal Tax Clinic, which focuses on representing low-income individuals who are being audited by the Internal Revenue Service. Brooke received her bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the women’s volleyball team and received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete Award for three consecutive years.
Brooke serves on the board of directors of the Eastern Collegiate Volleyball Association (ECVA).
