Christopher N. McGann is an attorney in the firm’s Estate Planning and Administration & Wealth Preservation Practice Group where he focuses his practice on estate planning, administration, and litigation matters.
Chris helps clients achieve their estate planning and wealth preservation goals, often incorporating more sophisticated trust planning designed to minimize or eliminate death taxes. Recognizing each client’s circumstances are unique, Chris counsels clients on the advantages and practicality of establishing testamentary and revocable trusts as well as the long-term benefits of settling various types of irrevocable trusts, such as life insurance trusts, supplemental needs trusts, spousal lifetime access trusts and dynasty trusts. Chris also routinely assists business owners to ensure their foundational corporate documents are prepared, buy-sell provisions in place, and eligible trusts established to own S-Corporation shares.
Additionally, Chris represents estate fiduciaries throughout the estate administration/probate process, advising on the preparation of fiduciary tax returns, resolving inheritance tax disputes with the taxing authorities, and settling the estate, whether informally or through the court system. Having a background in family law, Chris is able to recognize and navigate unresolved familial disputes and works closely with the firm’s litigation department to ensure the client’s interests are protected.
Chris is a graduate of Rutgers Law School and served as an article editor for the Rutgers Law Journal. After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Margaret Goodzeit (ret.), then in the Family Part of the Superior Court of New Jersey. Chris enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, tackling DIY projects, and following the New York Rangers and Yankees in his spare time.
