Annmarie Simeone Elected to NJWLA Board of Directors and as Gala Chair


Bridgewater, NJ (August 31, 2011) – Annmarie Simeone, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., was re-elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, and will be Chair of the NJWLA Annual Women’s Initiative & Leaders in the Law (WILL) Platinum Gala. The NJWLA presents its signature event to honor the accomplishments of successful individuals in the Judicial, Public, Corporate, and Private Sectors. In addition, the NJWLA awards scholarships to three aspiring women attorneys, who arepursuing degrees at Rutgers University School of Law – Newark and Camden and Seton Hall University School of Law, and who distinguished themselves from a diverse pool of qualified applicants. The NJWLA established the scholarship program benefitting women, to fulfill its mission to give back to the legal community.

The New Jersey Women Lawyers Association is an independent association of over 500 New Jersey women lawyers. Its mission is to retain women in the legal profession through education and activism; to promote members to the highest levels of law firm, government, academic, community and corporate positions; and to endorse qualified female attorneys for appointments to the state and federal judiciary. NJWLA fosters leadership among its members by promoting professional activities, mentoring, educational programs, and networking functions.

Simeone, a resident of Woodbridge, concentrates her practice on labor and employment litigation. She has a wide range of experience in state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution venues. She primarily defends management in claims made by employees under state and federal employment laws, including claims for sexual harassment, race, gender, national origin, and disability discrimination. Her work includes the defense of corporations, as well as of individual officers, directors, and employees, addressing issues unique to small businesses, and challenges faced by larger companies.

In addition, Simeone provides advice and counseling to human resource professionals and in-house counsel with respect to a wide range of employment issues, including family and medical leave, employee discipline and terminations, disability accommodations, layoff issues such as WARN compliance, and the negotiation and design of severance packages. She also drafts employee manuals and employment-related policies and procedures.

Simeone earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University in 1993, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1990. She is admitted to the New Jersey Bar, and is a member of the New Jersey State and Middlesex County Bar Associations, as well as the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Resource Center of Somerset.
