Annmarie Simeone, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., has been elected to serve as Vice President of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association (NJWLA) for the 2015-2016 term. She has served in various leadership positions with the NJWLA, including Chief Financial Officer, 2014-2015, Secretary, 2013-2014; Co-Chief Operating Officer, 2010-2011; Co-Director of the Women’s Leadership Resources Committee, 2008-2010; and Chair of the Women’s Initiative and Leaders in Law Gala, 2011-2012.

“It is my honor to serve as Vice President of the NJWLA, and I look forward to continuing to work in support of NJWLA’s mission.” Simeone said.

The New Jersey Women Lawyers Association is an independent association with over 1,000 members.  Its mission is to retain women in the legal profession through education and activism; to promote members to the highest levels of law firm, government, academic, community and corporate positions; and to endorse qualified female attorneys for appointments to the state and federal judiciary.  NJWLA fosters leadership among its members by promoting professional activities, mentoring, educational programs, and networking functions.

Simeone, a resident of Woodbridge, concentrates her practice on labor and employment counseling and litigation.  She has a wide range of experience in state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution venues, primarily defending management in claims made by employees under state and federal employment laws, including claims for sexual harassment, race, gender, national origin, and disability discrimination.  She has defended employers in cases alleging constructive discharge, wrongful termination, retaliation, and breach of express or implied employment contracts. Her work includes the defense of corporations, as well as individual officers, directors, and employees, addressing both issues unique to small businesses and challenges faced by larger public companies. Simeone also provides advice and counseling to human resource professionals and in-house counsel on a wide range of employment issues, including family and medical leave, employee discipline and terminations, disability accommodations, and layoff issues.  She also drafts employee manuals and employment-related policies and procedures.

Simeone earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1993, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1990.  She is admitted to the New Jersey Bar and is a member of the New Jersey State, Somerset and Middlesex County Bar Associations, and the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey.  In 2013, she was named the Outstanding Woman in Somerset County in the area of Law by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women.
