Annmarie Simeone Honored as Outstanding Woman in Somerset County in Law

Bridgewater, NJ (February 25, 2013) – Annmarie Simeone, a resident of Woodbridge and a  Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., has been selected as an Outstanding Woman in Somerset County in the category of Law for 2013 by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women (SCCSW).  The award recognizes her personal accomplishments and her dedication to her profession and the community.  Simeone will be honored at the SCCSW Award Dinner on March 22, 2013.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the SCCSW highlights women who live or work in Somerset County, and who have made significant contributions in their professional fields to women’s causes and in their community endeavors.  The other categories for the 2013 program are Business/Management, Education, Entrepreneur, Environmental Initiatives, Government/Public Service, Health Services, Hometown Hero, Medicine/Health Services, Social Services, and Volunteerism.   “The 21 honorees represent a cross-section of backgrounds, abilities and endeavors,” said Freeholder Mark Caliguire, commission liaison. “It is our pleasure to recognize them for the many contributions they have made to their communities.”

Simeone concentrates her practice on labor and employment counseling and litigation.  She has a wide range of experience in state and federal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution venues, primarily defending management in claims made by employees under state and federal employment laws, including claims for sexual harassment, race, gender, national origin, and disability discrimination.  She has defended employers in cases alleging constructive discharge, wrongful termination, retaliation, breach of express or implied employment contracts, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, and violations of restrictive covenants.  Her work includes the defense of corporations, as well as of individual officers, directors, and employees, addressing both issues unique to small businesses and challenges faced by larger public companies.   Simeone also provides advice and counseling to human resource professionals and in-house counsel on a wide range of employment issues, including family and medical leave, employee discipline and terminations, disability accommodations, layoff issues such as WARN compliance, and severance packages.  She also drafts employee manuals and employment-related policies and procedures.

Simeone earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University in 1993, and her B.A., summa cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1990.  She is admitted to the New Jersey Bar and is a member of the New Jersey State, Somerset and Middlesex County Bar Associations, as well as the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey.  Simeone serves on the Board of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and is the Second Vice-President of the Board of Trustees for the Resource Center of Somerset.
