Steven A. Karg concentrates his practice in commercial litigation with an emphasis on pharmaceutical, products, and consumer liability defense. He is the Chairperson of the Firm’s Product and Consumer Liability Defense Group with substantial experience defending manufacturers and/or distributors of a wide variety of products, such as pharmaceuticals, tobacco products, heavy industrial equipment, marine engines, chemicals and chemical processing systems, automobile lifts, pumps, tow tractors and trucks, buses, automotive accessories, trailers, forklifts, fasteners, soil remediation, and food preparation equipment. Steve has represented clients at both trial and appellate levels, including in New Jersey’s Multi-County Litigation system. In addition to direct client representation, Steve has acted on many occasions as New Jersey counsel with virtual law firms comprising counsel around the country defending companies in nationwide products, consumer, and class litigations.
Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin, Steve was the Manager of Property and Facilities at Purolator Courier Corporation, where he managed the company’s many facilities and supervised construction of projects. Before that, he was a production supervisor and industrial engineer at the Colgate-Palmolive Company, where he oversaw the production of personal care products.
Steve often speaks on products liability and consumer fraud topics to organizations including the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, New Jersey Defense Association, New Jersey Chapter of Risk and Insurance Management Society, New Jersey Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society, Northeast Pharmaceutical Attorneys, and the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education. § Dreier, Karg, Keefe and Katz, New Jersey Products Liability & Toxic Torts Law (Gann Law Books – Annual Republishing 2016-2021)(co-author). § 2015 New Jersey Mass Torts & Class Action Treatise, Chapter One – The Mechanics of Forming and Terminating Multicounty Litigations in New Jersey, published by NJICLE, a division of the New Jersey State Bar Association (Christopher M. He has been the defense-side co-moderator or speaker for NJICLE’s annual Multi-County Litigation (formerly Mass Tort) seminar for many years and has presented on topics involving class actions and mass torts. He has authored many articles on products liability and consumer fraud topics.
In 2017, Steve was selected for inclusion in the Class Action/Mass Tort section of New Jersey Super Lawyers®. Only five percent of New Jersey attorneys are given this honor. Steve is also listed in the Product Liability Litigation – Defendants section of the current issue of Best Lawyers. In 2019, Steve received Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Preeminent rating, the highest lawyer rating, which serves as an objective indicator of the lawyer’s high ethical standards, legal knowledge, and analytical capabilities.
