The LVEDC recently participated in the World Forum for the Foreign Direct Investment Conference in Philadelphia, as it gave tours of the Lehigh Valley region to participants of the conference. The Lehigh Valley was awarded one of the tours to be held outside the Philadelphia region for the conference, and investors travelled to the Lehigh Valley to tour Two City Center in Allentown, Martin Guitar in Nazareth, and B.Braun Medical in Hanover Township. For the Allentown portion of the tour, Jim Harbaugh from City Center Investment Corp. cited the Neighborhood Improvement Zone as a mechanism for driving new tenants to the properties in Allentown. LVEDC CEO Don Cunningham stated that the LVEDC is focusing on international investment, and is striving to gain exposure to foreign investors.
This news follows the recent announcement that Taizhou Fuling Plastics of China is set to build an 88,000 square foot facility in Fogelsville at the Iron Run Industrial Park. Again focusing on international investment, Don Cunningham stated that this move could be the beginning of a shift in the economic development climate in the Lehigh Valley. Taizhou Fuling Plastics, founded in 1992, currently manufactures plastic cutlery in China and serves customers such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, KFC, and Subway, as well as Target and Walmart.
