As the City of Allentown gears up for the opening of the PPL Center and the the arrival of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, businesses along the Hamilton Street corridor are looking to spruce up their storefront facades as well. Shops and businesses along Hamilton Street and 7th Street have partnered with the Hamilton District Main Street Program and the Seventh Street Main Street Program to take advantage of state funding available for facade renovations. In addition to state grant programs, City Center and PPL have both made financial contributions to support the beautification of the downtown area.
The Main Street Programs seek to revitalize downtown areas and neighborhood business districts, and focus on the overall design, safety, accessibility and branding of the downtown area. Main Street Programs are made possible by grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and through the support of local government, foundations, and corporations including the City of Allentown, the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation, and the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Contributions by local businesses invested in the downtown area exemplify the commitment to the revitalization of Allentown.
