On December 12, 2012, Norris McLaughlin Member Oren Chaplin participated in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Awards Gala, hosted by The Business Council for International Understanding. BCIU hosted this year’s Gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. This year, BCIU honored Carlos Slim with its Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award. The presenter of the evening was Sergio Marchionne, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Chrysler Group LLC; Chairman, Fiat Industrial S.p.A.; and Chief Executive Officer, Fiat S.p.A. Master of Ceremonies was Larry King and entertainment was provided by Paul Anka.
The Business Council for International Understanding is a premier business association whose membership includes many of the world’s largest multinational corporations in all major industries. BCIU promotes international understanding through dialogue and action by organizing briefings and off-the-record discussions between senior government officials and key business executives on issues of common concern. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Global Leadership Award, named for BCIU’s founder, recognizes international business leaders for their outstanding contribution to global commerce. This year’s recipient is involved with well known companies such as Grupo Carso, Grupo Financiero Inbursa, Inmuebles Carso, America Movil, IDEAL, and Minera Frisco, but has also established himself as an extraordinary philanthropist contributing to the development of education, business, justice, health and the arts through his foundations in Mexico and throughout Latin America.
