Business Council for International Understanding Hosts Luncheon to Inform Executives About OPIC’s Operations and Objectives

Norris McLaughlin attorneys Robert Gabrielski and Oren Chaplin recently participated in a luncheon discussion with The Honorable Elizabeth Littlefield, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (“OPIC”). The lunch discussion was presented by the Business Council for International Understanding (“BCIU”) and with the goal of providing a forum where participants could learn more about OPIC’s operations and objectives.
OPIC was established in 1971 as an agency of the U.S. government. It works with the U.S. private sector, helping facilitate development in foreign and emerging markets. OPIC provides investors not only with direct financing, but also guarantees, political risk insurance and support for private equity investment funds. Viewed as the U.S. government’s development finance institution, it seeks to promote positive U.S. and host country developmental effects.
We see that OPIC has worked with BCIU to facilitate business and investment overseas. As a membership organization, BCIU presents a platform for discussions between senior business executives and heads of state/government officials. BCIU engages in brokering relationships and designing events to stimulate and foster those relationships; its work is not limited to any particular economic sector or geographic region. BCIU is actively involved with issues relating to defense, energy, engineering/construction, financial services, health/pharmaceuticals, IT/electronics/telecommunications, legal services, manufacturing, mining/metals, and others. With offices in New York and Washington DC, it is uniquely positioned to be able to develop and foster relationships with senior staff of the private and public sector.
We believe that BCIU provides valuable services to U.S. businesses, creating many relationships and opportunities along the way. To learn more about BCIU and OPIC, please visit each of their websites at BCIU.org, and OPIC.gov. For any questions relating to BCIU, please contact Mr. Onat Dogruer, Vice President (O-Dogruer@bciu.org).
