Jeralyn Lawrence Trains Lawyers on the Collaborative Divorce Process

Bridgewater, NJ (February 25, 2011) – Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will participate in the New Jersey State Bar Association (“NJSBA”) Family Law Section Annual Retreat, which will be held from March 30 to April 2, 2011, at the Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas. Lawrence will host and moderate the Bahamas Bowl, where two teams consisting of financial experts, including accountants and financial planners, will compete on legal knowledge in the field of family law. The Bahamas Bowl will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 31, 2011.

The mission of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section is to maintain and improve the practice of family law through effective interaction with the family courts and by informing members of current legislation and regulations. Lawrence serves as Secretary of the Section and sits on its Executive Committee, as well as several other committees, including the Annual Retreat Committee, which assists in planning the retreat. She also serves as an Associate Managing Editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer, the official publication of the Family Law Section. The New Jersey State Bar Association serves, protects, fosters and promotes the personal and professional interests of its members, serving as the voice of New Jersey attorneys. It fosters professionalism and pride in the profession and the NJSBA and provides educational opportunities to New Jersey attorneys to enhance the quality of legal services and the practice of law.

A resident of Watchung, Lawrence devotes her practice to matrimonial, divorce and family law, and collaborative law. A Family/Divorce Mediator and certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney, she has worked with clients whose needs lie in all areas of matrimonial and family law, including divorce litigation and mediation, custody and parenting time issues, alimony and child support, separation and property settlement agreements, adoption and guardianship advice, domestic partnership matters under the Domestic Partnership Act, domestic violence and sexual abuse, and palimony. She takes great pride and care in helping her clients make it through these difficult personal matters.

To complement the breadth of her matrimonial, divorce and family law practice, Lawrence involves herself in various professional engagements outside the firm. She frequently serves as a speaker and panelist at divorce and family law programs and seminars, and has been admitted to the rosters of Mediators for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases and of Custody and Parenting Time Cases for Somerset County. She spends her spare time as an attorney volunteer at the Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerset County.

Lawrence serves as Treasurer of the Somerset County Bar Association. She was appointed to the Somerset County Domestic Violence Working Group, as a representative of the Somerset County Family Law Section. She is currently a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. She is also a member of the NMM Women’s Forum Steering Committee.

Lawrence is a Fellow to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the preeminent family law association in America. She was also selected as the 2009 Kean University Distinguished Alumna, the highest award for alumni, by the Kean University Alumni Association. She was also honored as an Outstanding Woman in Somerset County for 2008 by the Somerset County Commission On the Status of Women. She has been selected by her peers as one of New Jersey’s Top Ten matrimonial lawyers under the age of 40. She has also been recognized by the New Jersey Law Journal as one of 40 accomplished and promising attorneys in the State of New Jersey under the age of 40. For several years, she has been listed among New Jersey’s Super Lawyers, which rates her among the top 5 percent of New Jersey lawyers. She has also been selected as one of the Top 100 New Jersey Super Lawyers for 2009, as well as Top 50 Female New Jersey Super Lawyers in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2007, Lawrence received the Young Lawyers Division’s Professional Achievement Award and the Annual Legislative Recognition Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association. Lawrence has received Certificates of Appreciation from 1998 to 2010 from the Somerset County Superior Court in recognition of her valuable contributions.
