Jeralyn Lawrence Moderates Family Law and Work Life Balance Courses at Mid-Year Meeting

Bridgewater, NJ (October 2, 2012) – Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., organized and will moderate, “Change in Circumstances – Modification of Support When Lady Luck Deals Your Client a Bad Hand,” at the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) Mid-Year Meeting, which is being held from October 10-14, 2012, at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas. On Friday, October 12, from 4:00 to 5:40 p.m., Lawrence, along with The Honorable Kimarie Rahill, JSC, Warren County, will discuss scenarios courts are facing when parties seek a modification of support obligations based on changes in circumstances. In addition, Lawrence will serve on panel for “Work-Life Balance: Is it in the Cards?,” which will discuss how to balance a law career with a home life, using the Rules of Professional Conduct as a guide, on Saturday, October 13, from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.

The NJSBA Mid-Year Meeting will feature networking and social events and seminars with CLE credits on civil and criminal practice, family law, environmental law, labor and employment law, equity jurisprudence, and workers’ compensation. Professional responsibility and ethics, social media, court-ordered mediation, and work-life balance will also be covered. Mid-Year Meeting seminars are sponsored by the NJSBA and its educational division, the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

A resident of Watchung, Lawrence devotes her practice to matrimonial, divorce and family law, and collaborative law. She is a Family/Divorce Mediator and is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Law Attorney. She has worked with clients whose needs lie in all areas of matrimonial and family law, including divorce litigation and mediation, custody and parenting time, alimony and child support, separation and property settlement agreements, adoption and guardianship, domestic partnership matters under the Domestic Partnership Act, domestic violence and sexual abuse, and palimony. She takes great pride and care in helping her clients make it through these difficult personal matters.

Lawrence serves as First Vice Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section. She is the Senior Editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer, the official publication of the Family Law Section. She also serves as First Vice President of the Somerset County Bar Association. She serves on the Board of Managers of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the preeminent family law association in America. Lawrence was appointed to the Somerset County Domestic Violence Working Group, as a representative of the Somerset County Family Law Section. She is a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, and the NMM Women’s Forum Steering Committee.

Lawrence was honored as one of New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business in 2011 for her dedication and contributions to New Jersey business and community. She was also selected as the 2009 Kean University Distinguished Alumna, the highest award for alumni, by the Kean University Alumni Association. She was also honored as an Outstanding Woman in Somerset County for 2008 by the Somerset County Commission On the Status of Women. She was selected by her peers as one of New Jersey’s Top Ten matrimonial lawyers under the age of 40, and recognized by the New Jersey Law Journal as one of 40 accomplished and promising attorneys in the State of New Jersey under the age of 40. For several years, she has been listed among New Jersey’s Super Lawyers, which rates her among the top 5 percent of New Jersey lawyers. She was also selected as one of the Top 100 New Jersey Super Lawyers, as well as Top 50 Female New Jersey Super Lawyers. In 2007, Lawrence received the Young Lawyers Division’s Professional Achievement Award and the Annual Legislative Recognition Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association.

To complement her practice, Lawrence involves herself in professional engagements outside the firm. She frequently serves as a speaker and panelist at divorce and family law programs and seminars. She has also been admitted to the rosters of Mediators for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases and of Custody and Parenting Time Cases for Somerset County. She devotes time to serve as an attorney volunteer at the Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerset County. In recognition of her valuable contributions, Lawrence has received Certificates of Appreciation from 1998 to 2012 from the Somerset County Superior Court.
