Jeralyn Lawrence Moderates “Hot Tips in Family Law: Marriage in 2013”
Bridgewater, NJ (October 22, 2012) – Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., organized and will moderate “Hot Tips in Family Law: Marriage in 2013,” on Monday, November 12, 2012. The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education is presenting the course in cooperation with the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Family Law Section.
“Over the last 50 years, the institution of marriage has rapidly transformed, including a sharp uptick in delayed marriages, out of wedlock births, single parent households, overall divorce rate, and gay marriages. However, in many ways, the law has not caught up with societal changes. Being in a relationship, but not being married – either because not legal or simply because you don’t want to – may not bring the societal condemnation and scorn it used to bring, but it can yield a host of unintended and undesirable legal consequences for the parties involved and their families,” explained Lawrence.
The course will discuss how to counsel and protect those who have chosen not to marry; examine some of the problems unmarried individuals may face during their lifetimes, including issues with reproductive efforts, adoption, child support, visitation and custody, finances, palimony, and estate planning; and offer solid advice and planning solutions for specific circumstances.
A resident of Watchung, Lawrence devotes her practice to matrimonial, divorce and family law, and collaborative law.
