Karg and Lawrence Serve as Officers to Somerset County Bar Association

Bridgewater, NJ (July 12, 2010) – Steven A. Karg and Jeralyn L. Lawrence, Members of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will serve as Officers to the Somerset County Bar Association (SCBA) for the new term. Karg has been elevated to the position of President, while Lawrence was elected to the position of Treasurer. The Officers and Trustees of the SCBA have a long tradition of exceptional service to the legal community and public.

The Somerset County Bar Association was founded over one hundred years ago. The Association has always been dedicated to public service and the enhancement of the legal profession by providing programs such as continuing legal education and legal referral services. Association members have included many prominent judges, legislators and attorneys who have served New Jersey and Somerset County with distinction. The Association promotes the highest standards of practice and encourages its members to contribute their time both within the legal community and the community at large.

Karg focuses his practice on commercial litigation with an emphasis on products liability defense. He has substantial experience defending manufacturers and/or distributors of a wide variety of products including prescription medications. He represents clients at both the trial and appellate level. He is the New Jersey counsel to Pfizer in the Celebrex/Bextra centralized litigation. He is also the New Jersey counsel to APP Pharmaceuticals and Abraxis BioScience, Inc. for several medications.

Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin, Karg was the Manager of Property and Facilities at Purolator Courier Corporation where he managed the company’s many facilities and supervised construction projects. Prior to that, he was a production supervisor and industrial engineer at the Colgate-Palmolive Company where he oversaw the production of personal care products.

Karg frequently speaks to various organizations about products liability issues, such as the American Bar Association, Meritas, Inc., New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, New Jersey Defense Association, New Jersey Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, New Jersey Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society, Northeast Pharmaceutical Attorneys and the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education. In addition, he has also authored many articles on various products liability and toxic tort issues.

Karg is a member of the New Jersey Defense Association (Former Chairperson, Products Liability Committee) and the Defense Research Institute (Member, Products Liability and Drug & Medical Device Committees).

Karg earned his J.D., cum laude, from Seton Hall University and his B.S., magna cum laude, from Trenton State College in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

A resident of Watchung, Lawrence devotes her practice to matrimonial, divorce and family law, and collaborative law. Certified as a Family/Divorce Mediator and, by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, as a Matrimonial Law Attorney, she has worked with clients whose needs lie in all areas of matrimonial and family law, including divorce litigation and mediation, custody and parenting time issues, alimony and child support, separation and property settlement agreements, adoption and guardianship advice, domestic partnership matters under the Domestic Partnership Act, domestic violence and sexual abuse, and palimony. She takes great pride and care in helping her clients make it through these difficult personal matters.

To complement the breadth of her matrimonial, divorce and family law practice, Lawrence involves herself in various professional engagements outside the firm. She frequently serves as a speaker and panelist at divorce and family law programs and seminars, and she has been admitted to the rosters of Mediators for Economic Aspects of Family Law Cases and of Custody and Parenting Time Cases for Somerset County. She spends her spare time as an attorney volunteer at the Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerset County.

Lawrence serves as Secretary of the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. She was appointed to the Somerset County Domestic Violence Working Group, as a representative of the Somerset County Family Law Section. Lawrence also chairs the Mock Trial Committee, which is responsible for the Somerset County Mock Trial Competition, an annual competition of high schools to represent the county in the Regional Competitions. She is currently a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators. She is also the Associate Managing Editor of the New Jersey Family Lawyer. She is also a member of the NMM Women’s Forum Steering Committee.

Recently, Lawrence was granted Fellowship to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the preeminent family law association in America. She was also selected as the 2009 Kean University Distinguished Alumna, the highest award for alumni, by the Kean University Alumni Association. She was also honored as an Outstanding Woman in Somerset County for 2008 by the Somerset County Commission On the Status of Women. She has been selected by her peers as one of New Jersey’s Top Ten matrimonial lawyers under the age of 40. She has also been recognized by the New Jersey Law Journal as one of 40 accomplished and promising attorneys in the State of New Jersey under the age of 40. For several years, she has been listed among New Jersey’s Super Lawyers, which rates her among the top 5 percent of New Jersey lawyers. She has also been selected as one of the Top 100 New Jersey Super Lawyers for 2009, as well as Top 50 Female New Jersey Super Lawyers in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2007, Lawrence received the Young Lawyers Division’s Professional Achievement Award and the Annual Legislative Recognition Award from the New Jersey State Bar Association. Lawrence has received Certificates of Appreciation from 1998 to 2008 from the Somerset County Superior Court in recognition of her valuable contributions.
