Charles Bruder Addresses Leaders in Non-Profit Organizations on Fundraising Tax Issues

Charles A. Bruder, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A. and Co-Chair of its Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits Group, was on a panel discussing the topic “Fundraising: The Strategies That Work,” at a seminar entitled “Business Perspectives in Non-Profit Management: The Next Generation.” The seminar, held on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Raritan Valley Community College, was hosted by the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Chamber in conjunction with TD Bank, Somerset County Business Partnership, United Way of Hunterdon County, United Way of Somerset County, and both counties.

The seminar was designed for non-profit organization leaders, board members, staff members, and volunteers with organizational responsibilities. The purpose of the interactive discussion was to help forward-thinking non-profit leaders that are dedicated to strengthening organizational missions, stimulating strategic thinking and garnering the cross-discipline dialog that improves management practices and makes a difference in the internal experience of business performance and external impact on service delivery.

Bruder, a resident of Lumberton, concentrates his practice in the areas of employee benefits and executive compensation.

Bruder is experienced in all aspects of defined contribution and defined benefit plans, deferred compensation arrangements, stock option plans, employee stock ownership plans, and other incentive and equity-based compensation arrangements. He frequently counsels clients in the area of plan qualification and administration issues, ERISA fiduciary matters, plan compliance issues, and employee benefits matters in the context of business reorganizations. In addition, Bruder is knowledgeable in the handling of group health plans, cafeteria plans, and other health and welfare benefits arrangements.

Prior to commencing his legal career, Bruder was a senior tax consultant for a “Big 5” accounting firm, providing tax consulting and financial planning services primarily to corporate executives and high net-worth individuals.

Bruder is a frequent lecturer in the area of employee benefits and has previously published articles in Metropolitan Corporate Counsel, The Hedge Fund Law Report, The Exempt Organizations Tax Review and the New Jersey Law Journal.

Bruder received his B.A. in 1991 from LaSalle University, his J.D. in 1996 from Widener University School of Law and his LL.M., with distinction, in 1997 from Georgetown University Law Center.
