Norris McLaughlin, P.A. Introduces New Internet Law Section

New York, NY (February 19, 2010) – Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A. is proud to introduce the new Internet Law Section of its Intellectual Property Group. The section is comprised of those of the firm’s IP attorneys who possess years of experience serving its corporate clients’ IP issues arising from the web. These attorneys also represent companies in various technology-based industries who, as a result of their industries, encounter many web-related IP issues, including Internet Service Providers, software and web developers, business-to-business and consumer e-commerce providers, IT consultants, hardware and device manufacturers, and other technology suppliers, vendors and purchasers. Jeanne M. Hamburg, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., is the contact person for the Internet Law Section. She can be reached at (212) 808-0700 or jhamburg@nmmlaw.com.

"NMM's Internet Law Section is comprised of attorneys with extensive and diverse experience with intellectual property issues arising from the web. These attorneys are uniquely and ideally situated to counsel clients as they navigate through this relatively new landscape, whether they wish to exploit IP on the web, enforce existing IP rights or litigate the complex and ever-evolving legal issues arising from use of IP on the web,” states Jeanne Hamburg about the new Internet Law Section.

The Internet Law Section of the IP Group offers the following services to clients with these concerns: litigation, including intellectual property disputes arising from cybersquatting and infringement cases arising from the use of patents, trademarks and copyrights on the web, including business method patent cases; trademark disputes under the Lanham Act relating to advertising on the web, purchases of key words on the Internet, use of hyperlinks or framing, and sponsored link results; controversies arising under the U.S. Copyright Act, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act; and controversies involving the impact of click-through agreements on IP rights. The Internet Law Section also has extensive experience with prosecution of trademark applications in the U.S. Trademark Office and ex parte and inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board for Internet-based businesses or trademark applications covering goods and services involving the web; recovery of domain names through UDRP cases; protection and clearance of website content from both the copyright and trademark perspective; negotiating and drafting of website development agreements and electronic transaction documents; drafting of privacy policies, terms of use and other agreements relating to use and exploitation of website content; license agreements for web-based content; electronic subscription agreements; web-based publishing and aggregation agreements; patenting of Internet business methods and systems; due diligence in connection with and drafting of asset or stock purchase agreements’ IP provisions; drafting, reviewing and negotiating of licensing, development, confidentiality, non-compete and non-disclosure agreements relating to exploitation of IP on the web.

Hamburg has expertise in all aspects of trademark and copyright law, both in litigation and in the transactional area. Resident in the firm’s New York City office, she assists clients in a broad range of industries with their IP needs. In 2009, Jeanne was recognized as a New York Super Lawyer® for Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Litigation. Only five percent of New York lawyers are given this honor.

Hamburg earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1990, where she was a member and editor of the Columbia Law Review, and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Wellesley College in 1987.
