Bridgewater, NJ (December 20, 2012) –The Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A.and Marcus, P.A., has been recognized by the American Heart Association as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite, joining an elite group of employers that recognize the importance of a healthy workplace for employees and have taken important steps to create a culture of wellness by providing support to employees.

“On behalf of the American Heart Association, I would like to congratulate your organization on becoming a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite,” said Nancy Brown, Chief Executive Officer. “We at the American Heart Association commend your efforts and look forward to seeing you continue to make great strides in the upcoming year,” she added.

“We are extremely honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association. Norris McLaughlin, P.A.is committed to our employees living longer and healthier lives. Participating in the Fit-Friendly Program is just one of many examples of our efforts to make our firm healthier,” said G. Robert Marcus, Managing Partner of Norris McLaughlin, P.A..

According to the AHA, heart disease is the No. 1 killer in the U.S., and physical inactivity doubles the risk. The Fit-Friendly Worksite program was developed to address this issue and help lower the risk of heart disease for employees. Fit-Friendly Worksites are recognized by the American Heart Association as employers who go above and beyond when it comes to their employees’ health. Participating employers embraced criteria as outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, and culture.

Norris McLaughlin, P.A. provided a healthy workplace for employees by, among other things, offering all employees physical activity support at the worksite, including participating in the 10,000 Steps-a-Day Walking Program and the 7th Annual RUN@WORK Day; increasing the number of healthy-eating options available to employees by introducing a farmer’s market with fresh produce and eggs during the summer months; and promoting a wellness culture at the firm by providing Wellness Screenings, hosting a Wellness Fair, and sponsoring a team of employees to walk in the Central New Jersey Heart Walk.
