    Svetlana (Lana) Ros and Bruce J. Wisotsky, Members of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., presented “Asset Protection for Physicians: Prescriptions for Preservation of Wealth” at the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons 2019 Socio-Economic Meeting, Saturday, April 6, at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel and Conference Center in Iselin.

    Ros and Wisotsky discussed asset protection, creditors rights, and best practices to protect physician’s practice’s and personal assets if unforeseen creditors come looking to collect. For more information, please click here.

    Ros focuses her practice in the area of health care law, including civil and administrative litigation, professional licensure defense, hospital medical staff matters, hospital disciplinary actions, regulatory compliance, managed care and government audits, and refund demands and investigations. She also handles transactional and regulatory matters affecting health care providers. She has successfully defended physicians before medical boards, OPMC, and SBME, and in OPD investigations, as well as Medicare fraud, fraud and abuse, RAC audits, Medicare audits, OIG fraud, health care fraud, medical audits, and health plan billing audits. Ros frequently lectures at hospitals throughout New Jersey and New York about legal issues affecting health care professionals. She earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.S. in biotechnology and nutrition from Rutgers University.

    Wisotsky represents debtors, creditors’ committees, equity committees, trustees, landlords, and secured and unsecured creditors in Chapter 11 and 7 bankruptcy proceedings.  He has litigated a wide variety of bankruptcy and commercial issues during his career inclusive of contract and lien validity disputes, actions to recover preferential transfers, fraudulent conveyance claims, and non-dischargeability of debt actions.

    Wisotsky has also lectured on various bankruptcy issues before the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Turnaround Management Association and the Essex County Bar Association.  He has addressed topics including prosecution and defense of preference actions, treatment of tax claims in bankruptcy proceedings, and retention bonus issues.  He is also on the United States Bankruptcy Court’s approved list of mediators.

    Wisotsky is a member of the New Jersey Regional Advisory Board of the Anti-Defamation League, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Turnaround Management Association.  He also served as an officer and counsel to Help Darfur Now, a non-profit corporation which raised funds to purchase food and medical supplies for refugees in the Darfur region of Sudan.  Wisotsky received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Temple University and Temple University School of Law.

  • Dec 07, 2018Victor Elgort to Present on Top LLC Mistakes for National Business Institute

    Victor S. Elgort, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will speak at the National Business Institute’s seminar, “Top 8 LLC Mistakes to Avoid in Everyday Business Practices: Avoid, Manage and Leverage Formation, Tax and Operating Agreement Oversights.” The seminar, approved for 8 NJ and NY CLE credits, 6.5 PA CLE credits, 8 CPE credits, and 0.7 IACET credits, will be held Thursday, December 20, 8:20 a.m. – 4:40 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia-Cherry Hill in Cherry Hill.

    Elgort often speaks at seminars on structuring complex LLC and partnership transactions. Most recently, on November 27, he spoke on a similar topic for the Nassau County Bar Association in New York, at a meeting jointly sponsored by three sections of the Bar Association, including the Corporation, Taxation, Banking & Securities Law Committees.  The theme was “All-Too-Common Mistakes in LLC Operating Agreements.”

    Elgort is Chair Emeritus of the firm’s Tax Group, practicing out of all three Norris McLaughlin locations, as he is admitted in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. His practice concentrates on business law and tax planning, including the structuring of partnerships and joint ventures, tax-saving real estate and business exit strategies, executive compensation, and domestic and international estate planning matters.

    Elgort organized and created the first limited liability company in New Jersey.  He authored the standard form operating agreements and other documents for limited liability companies published by Julius Blumberg, Inc., including both the forms for use in New Jersey and the generic forms offered nationwide for limited liability companies.

    In addition, Elgort is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  He frequently lectures at tax planning courses, including continuing education seminars. He has authored extensive material published by the NBI, Lorman Education Services, Professional Education Seminars, and other national seminar companies, including topics such as “LLCS: Beyond the Basics”, “LLC Business Law Bootcamp”, “LLCs: Advising Small Business Start-Ups and Larger Companies in New Jersey”, “Partnerships, LLCs and LLPs: Organization and Operation,” “Asset Protection Planning in New Jersey,” “Limited Liability Companies in New Jersey,” “Transferring Business Wealth,” “Administration of the Estate in New Jersey,” “Planning Opportunities with Living Trusts in New Jersey,” “New Jersey Probate: Beyond the Basics,” “A Practical Guide to Estate Administration in New Jersey,” and “Family Limited Partnerships and Limited Liability Companies in New Jersey.”

    Elgort received his undergraduate degree with high honors from Rutgers University, his J.D. with honors from Cornell University, and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University. He is included in the Trusts and Estates section of The Best Lawyers in America and has been named by his peers as a New Jersey Super Lawyer in the Tax section.

    Lana Ros, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will present “Improving your Prognosis: Best Practices to Avoid Investigations” at The Dermatological Society of New Jersey’s annual education conference on Saturday, April 21, at the Forsgate Country Club in Monroe.

  • Sep 18, 2017CIANJ Honors Norris McLaughlin, P.A. for Best Practices

    Norris McLaughlin, P.A. was honored by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ) and COMMERCE Magazine at the 4th Annual Best Practices Conference on September 12 at Nanina’s in the Park.

    Best Practices Awards were given to company and business leaders selected by a blue-ribbon panel of judges assembled by CIANJ. The association represents more than  900 corporate members and works to advance free market principles.

    COMMERCE Magazine Editor Miles Epstein asked business executives to share thoughts on the winning strategies they use to distinguish their businesses in the marketplace. Their comments, along with the firm’s, were compiled into the Best Practices Guide. This year’s edition contained advice from 100 chief-executive-officers, managing partners and business owners, and featured comments from industry leaders who were showcased in earlier issues of COMMERCE Magazine.

    More than 150 executives participated in the conference, which saluted innovation in the workplace. Speakers included Don Sebastian, President of the New Jersey Innovation Institute; Peggy Boyce, President of Ladies of Laughter, Inc.; and Tim Hogan, President of Bayshore Hospital.
