  • May 06, 2019David Vozza to Present at Onondaga County Medical Society’s Ask the Carriers Conference

    David N. Vozza, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will present “How to Deal with Difficult Patients” at the Ask the Carriers Conference on Thursday, May 9, 2:35 – 3:05 p.m., at the Syracuse Holiday Inn in Liverpool, New York. The all-day event, hosted by the Onondaga County Medical Society, gives physicians and their staff an opportunity to ask questions of local insurance carrier representatives and to learn about their new policies or programs. Many local vendors and organizations of interest to physicians and their staff will be onsite as well.

  • Apr 23, 2019David Adelson Speaks to New Jersey Medical Societies

    David L. Adelson, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., has been presenting to multiple medical societies throughout New Jersey this month. He frequently lectures at numerous hospitals and before healthcare-related legal and medical organizations on health law issues including over-prescribing of medications, inappropriate conduct of practitioners, general licensure, healthcare-related cyber security issues, fraud and abuse, medical records, confidentiality of protected health information, employment contract challenges, and administrative law proceedings.

    Adelson delivered two presentations for the Union County Medical Society’s Annual Meeting, “Out-of-Network Consumer Protection, Transparency, Cost Containment, and Accountability Act” and “Legal Implications of Prescribing CDS.” The meeting was held Friday, April 5, at The Westwood in Garwood. In his first presentation, he discussed the Out of Network Law; and in the second, the regulations limiting the prescribing of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) for acute pain and those governing the prescribing of CDS for chronic pain, problem areas in prescribing CDS, and necessary safety measures.

    On Saturday, April 13, Adelson presented “Protecting Your Medical Practice from Within” for The New Jersey Plastic Surgery Society’s Annual Meeting at the Hyatt in New Brunswick. Adelson once again presented “Legal Implications of Prescribing CDS” for the Dermatological Society Of New Jersey’s Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 14, at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township.

    Adelson has over 30 years of litigation and healthcare law experience and represents a wide array of healthcare professionals and medical practices.  His practice includes a broad range of health law litigation and administrative legal matters in New York and New Jersey with concentrations in the fields of professional discipline, hearings and appeals related to professional misconduct, private and public insurance audits, fraud and abuse, audit refund requests (private, Medicaid and Medicare), HIPAA, employment matters, and IPRO inquiries.

    Adelson has successfully defended physicians in investigations before medical boards including OPMC, SBME, and OPD, as well as in private health insurance billing audits, civil Medicare/Medicaid audit/fraud claims, physician privileges, insurance fraud and abuse, RAC audits, OIG matters and MACRA.  He has litigated numerous healthcare matters and defended sizable audits against some of the largest national healthcare insurance providers.

    Adelson is a member of the Health and Hospital Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.  Adelson earned his B.A. in Rhetoric and Communication from SUNY Albany in 1984, his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1987, and his Master’s Degree in Homeland Security from Long Island University in 2011.

    Lana Ros, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., presented “Legal Implications of Prescribing CDS: What Every Physician Should Know” at a seminar hosted by the Camden County and Burlington County Medical Societies, Tuesday, April 2, at the Tavistock Country Club in Haddonfield.

    Ros discussed the regulations limiting the prescribing of controlled dangerous substances (CDS) for acute pain and those governing the prescribing of CDS for chronic pain; problem areas in prescribing CDS; and necessary safety measures.   • Jun 08, 2018Sandra Jarva Weiss Presents to MidAtlantic College Nurses Association

    Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., and Chair of its Health Care & Life Sciences Practice Group, presented “Medical Record Privacy Rights of Students Under FERPA and HIPAA” to the MidAtlantic College Nurses Association at their annual meeting on June 6 at Lafayette College in Easton.  She discussed the applicability of FERPA and HIPAA to the medical records of adult students treated in their college’s health center, in local hospitals, and in private medical practices, as well as the ability of parents to obtain medical treatment information about their student.

    Jarva Weiss focuses her practice in all areas of health care regulation including compliance with the Stark, Anti-Kickback and False Claims statutes, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement regulations, HIPAA and HITECH requirements, and Joint Commission standards.  She has designed numerous compliance programs and counsels clients on compliance matters.  Her practice also includes the structuring of mergers, acquisitions, and strategic affiliations of health and health-related businesses and the development of imaging centers and ambulatory surgery centers.

    Jarva Weiss earned her J.D. in 1983 and her B.A. in 1980 from George Washington University.

    The law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., is pleased to announce that attorneys David L. Adelson, David N. Vozza, and Lana Ros, Members of the firm’s Health Care & Life Sciences Group, have been named legal counsel to The Medical Society of the County of Queens, Inc.

    Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin, P.A., Adelson, Vozza, and Ros had been counsel to the Society for many years, and are proud to be asked to return.
