  • Jun 08, 2018Sandra Jarva Weiss Presents to MidAtlantic College Nurses Association

    Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., and Chair of its Health Care & Life Sciences Practice Group, presented “Medical Record Privacy Rights of Students Under FERPA and HIPAA” to the MidAtlantic College Nurses Association at their annual meeting on June 6 at Lafayette College in Easton.  She discussed the applicability of FERPA and HIPAA to the medical records of adult students treated in their college’s health center, in local hospitals, and in private medical practices, as well as the ability of parents to obtain medical treatment information about their student.

    Jarva Weiss focuses her practice in all areas of health care regulation including compliance with the Stark, Anti-Kickback and False Claims statutes, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement regulations, HIPAA and HITECH requirements, and Joint Commission standards.  She has designed numerous compliance programs and counsels clients on compliance matters.  Her practice also includes the structuring of mergers, acquisitions, and strategic affiliations of health and health-related businesses and the development of imaging centers and ambulatory surgery centers.

    Jarva Weiss earned her J.D. in 1983 and her B.A. in 1980 from George Washington University.

    The law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., is pleased to announce that attorneys David L. Adelson, David N. Vozza, and Lana Ros, Members of the firm’s Health Care & Life Sciences Group, have been named legal counsel to The Medical Society of the County of Queens, Inc.

    Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin, P.A., Adelson, Vozza, and Ros had been counsel to the Society for many years, and are proud to be asked to return.

    During a two-year term, the firm will be responsible for the day-to-day legal representation of the society themselves, as well as handling all member questions and inquiries.  The firm’s wide array of legal specialties will enable it to handle not only healthcare law issues, but other legal issues as needed.  Adelson, Vozza, and Ros will also attend society functions, write articles, provide lectures, and generally support the society and its members in their endeavors.

    Lana Ros, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., was honored to present “An Overview of the NJ Medical Marijuana Program” to the Saint Clare’s Health Medical Staff at their semi-annual medical staff meeting on Tuesday, May 15, at the Rockaway River Country Club in Denville.  Ros discussed various components of the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act, its recent changes, and the process for physicians to become eligible to certify patients to receive medical marijuana.

    David Vozza, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will present at Onondaga County Medical Society’s Ask the Carriers Conference on Thursday, May 10 at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool, New York. The conference allows attendees to meet with regional insurance carriers to find out what’s new in 2018 and ask any questions they may have.

Denner, recently wrote an article for the Onondaga County Medical Society Bulletin‘s “The Legal Treatment” section.  Medical Practices in the New Age of Sexual Harassment and #MeToo” discusses the hot topic of sexual harassment in the workplace, which does not exclude medical practices, and its applicable laws, legal definition, employer liability, retaliation, and best practices in anti-harassment policies and training.

    Vozza defends health care professionals in connection with disciplinary and regulatory actions before federal and state agencies, private and government payor audits, civil and criminal fraud investigations, hospital and privileges disputes, and general healthcare litigation in both federal and state courts.
