Jeralyn L. Lawrence, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., member of its Management Committee, and Chair of the Matrimonial & Family Law Practice Group, will speak on relocation after the recent New Jersey Supreme Court Case, Bisbing v. Bisbing, as Treasurer of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML-NJ) and Secretary of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA).  The seminar presented jointly by the AAML-NJ and New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE) will be on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick.

For many years, if the move was good for the relocating parent, made in good faith, and not inimical to the child’s best interest, permission for the relocation was granted, based upon the Baures standard.  After Bisbing, the best interest of the child governs relocation cases.  Lawrence, along with the Hon. Anne Paterson, Supreme Court Justice and author of the Bisbing decision, as well as other family lawyers and mental health experts, will discuss the issue of relocation and how every state in the United States handles it, including the shift in the law, how the decision presents important strategic implications for attorneys and parents when they negotiate custody arrangements, and for judges when they consider relocation applications.  For more information or to register, visit njicle.com.
