  • Jul 10, 2019Lana Ros Named Somerset County Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Committee Co-Chair

    Svetlana (Lana) Ros, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., has been named Co-Chair of the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee for the Somerset County Bar Association (SCBA). As Co-Chair, she will be responsible for coordinating and organizing CLE programs for the year, including the association’s annual CLE Marathon Day.

    Founded over 100 years ago, the SCBA is dedicated to public service and the enhancement of the legal profession by providing programs such as continuing legal education and legal referral services. Association members have included many prominent judges, legislators, and attorneys who have served New Jersey and Somerset County with distinction.  The association promotes the highest standards of practice and encourages its members to contribute their time within both the legal community and the community at large.

    Ros focuses her practice on health care law, specifically in the area of civil and administrative litigation, with a concentration in professional licensure and general defense before government agencies proving oversight to the practice of medicine and dentistry.  She also handles transactional and regulatory matters affecting healthcare providers.  Ros routinely represents healthcare professionals before federal agencies, including Medicare, Office of Civil Rights, and Office of the Inspector General, and state agencies such as Department of Banking and Insurance, Attorney General’s Office, and Department of Health.

    Ros writes and lectures throughout New Jersey and New York on legal issues affecting healthcare professionals, such as over-prescribing of medications, inappropriate conduct of practitioners, general licensure, healthcare-related cybersecurity issues, fraud and abuse, medical records, HIPAA, and employment law.

    As a member of the firm’s Cannabis Law Group, Ros draws on her extensive knowledge and background in dealing with regulatory agencies to assist health care providers and non-healthcare clients to navigate the complex and developing area of medical cannabis.

    Ros earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.S. in biotechnology and nutrition from Rutgers University.

    William C. Menard, an Associate of the law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will moderate the Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP) Business Builders Breakfast, “Employers & Immigration Forum,” on Tuesday, April 17, 8:30 – 10:00 a.m., at the firm’s Bridgewater office.  Other panelists will include Alejandra Price, Senior Contract Specialist & Legal Analyst at Brother International, and Audris Francis, Director of Talent Acquisition at Sanofi.  The forum will focus on how to attract top talent from around the world and comply with the increasingly strict enforcement of immigration laws.  Networking and breakfast will also be offered.  For more information or to register, visit the SCBP website.

    Menard is a leading immigration law and deportation defense attorney.  He has represented both individual and corporate clients in all facets of immigration law and has appeared on behalf of clients in deportation proceedings before immigration courts throughout the country, including in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.  He has represented numerous clients before both the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services and the Board of Immigration Appeals and has conducted oral arguments before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

    Menard has completed and advised on permanent residence visas and a wide range of temporary visas.  This has included Permanent Labor Certifications in the first, second, and third Employment-Based Categories for business managers, executives, other professionals, as well EB-5 processing projects for foreign investors.  He has also worked extensively on L visas for international corporations and their executives and managers, including “Blanket L” Visas for large global companies.

    Menard also represents clients at all stages of proceedings before the immigration court, including obtaining bail for detained individuals and applying for relief from deportation, as well as petitions and applications before the Departments of State and Homeland Security.  He has also represented clients from six continents, including Mexico, Canada, and El Salvador; Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina; France, Germany, and the United Kingdom; Senegal, Egypt, and Ghana; China, Japan, and the Philippines; and Australia.

    Menard earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 2012 and his B.A. in Government at Claremont McKenna College in 2009.  In law school, Menard was selected to join the prestigious Moot Court Honor Society, earning the Joseph T. Tinnelly Best Brief Award for his year and being twice chosen to argue in the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition, the largest and most respected moot court competition in the world.
