Jeanne Hamburg, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will present the webinar, "Copyright Basics for Filmmakers," for The Gotham.
The "Copyright Basics for Filmmakers" webinar will cover copyright issues as it pertains to making films and movies, and more. This webinar will provide an insight into securing with all those who creatively contribute to the film, and clearing third-party copyrights. It will also provide an understanding of when publicity releases are necessary to use the image, voice, or likeness of a person in your film, and how to ensure you have the rights to make a film based on a book.

The Gotham offers support to creators in varying stages of their project: funding, development, pre-production, production and distribution. We host narrative and documentary labs, Gotham Week’s Project Forum conference, as well as fiscal sponsorship initiatives. Year-round public programming also offers creative insight as well as technological and business guidance, which includes Filmmaker Magazine, Gotham Week, the Gotham Awards, and the Gotham Labs. The Gotham’s latest initiative, Gotham EDU, is a new virtual internship program working in conjunction with leading colleges and universities.

Jeanne Hamburg concentrates her practice in all aspects of copyright and trademark law. Resident in Norris McLaughlin’s New York City office, she assists clients in a broad range of industries with their intellectual property needs, but most notably in the media, entertainment, and publishing fields. In each year since 2009, Jeanne has been recognized as a New York Super Lawyer®. In the transactional area, Jeanne is experienced in trademark and copyright licensing, traditional print and online publishing, software development, website development, content licenses, and electronic subscriptions. She has litigated high-profile copyright cases, including one that attracted the attention of the U.S. Copyright Office and one involving the claims of a world-renowned artist seeking to prevent the sale of her incomplete works by a major New York auction house. In both intellectual property and media law matters, Jeanne represents or has represented the largest online publisher of Jewish content in North America, several magazine and newspaper publishers, a well-known university press, a large STM publisher, the owner of a world-famous video game, and a New York-based creative agency collaborating on an immersive project with a renowned photographer. She also negotiates publishing and merchandising deals around the world for a famous children’s book author and handles all U.S. trademark matters for one of the world’s best-known artists. Jeanne chairs the firm’s Internet Law Practice Group.
Jeanne has spoken to the Association of American Publishers (AAP) Rights and Permissions Committee members and before the New York chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA. She frequently writes on topics of interest to those in the publishing industry.
