Jeanne Hamburg Speaks To IFDA - NY Chapter About Intellectual Property Issues
New York, NY (July 8, 2009) - Jeanne Hamburg, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will be speaking at the International Furnishings Design Association (IFDA), New York Chapter, Better Business Boot Camp Series. On Thursday, July 16, 2009, her topic will be "Copyrights in Creative Designs" and, on Thursday, September 10, 2009, it will be "Trademarks in Designs, Product Shapes, Logos and Brands." Both sessions are from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and will be held at the offices of IFDA NY, 200 Lexington Avenue, New York, New York.
The talk will engage designers and manufacturers in the furniture and design trades on copyright and trademark issues. Hamburg, a specialist in this field, covers how designers and manufacturers can protect their creative work, as well as be sure that third party designs they use for inspiration are not infringed, and manage difficult issues relating to the functionality doctrine.
The event is free for IFDA members. The fee for either session is $25 or $40 for both sessions for non-IFDA members. There are special reduced fees for students. For more information or to RSVP, you can contact IFDA NY at (212) 686-6020 or ifdanyny@verizon.net.

Hamburg has expertise in all aspects of copyright and trademark law, both in litigation and in the transactional area. She has been practicing for over 19 years. A sizable portion of her practice is devoted to protecting the rights of intellectual property owners in creative design fields, including furnishings, textiles, fashion and jewelry. Hamburg has also defended her clients in these design fields against charges of intellectual property infringement and has "cleared" designs for sale, ensuring their owners will not experience protests or charges of infringement. In the transactional area, she is experienced in trademark and copyright licensing.
Hamburg is a member of the IFDA, among other trade groups for professionals in the design and creative fields. She has written about copyright for the IFDA's national newsletter. Hamburg is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (former member of Committee on Enhancing Diversity in the Profession and Committee on Copyright and Literary Property), and the International Trademark Association, in which she has held a number of leadership roles.
