Jeanne Hamburg Speaks To
Women’s National Book Association About Copyright Issues
New York, NY (November 24, 2008) – Jeanne Hamburg, a member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will be speaking at a Women’s National Book Association event on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at the New York Public Library, Jefferson Market Branch. Her topic will be “Hot Property: Copyright Basics for Publishers and Authors.”
The talk will engage publishers, agents, authors and other publishing professionals on copyright issues. In our digital age, it is vital to know how to navigate the thickets of copyright and fair use. Hamburg, a specialist in this field, covers how authors and agents can protect literary and other creative works and manage difficult issues relating to fair use and permissions for text excerpts, images, and other content.
The Women’s National Book Association (WNBA), founded in 1917 by a group of women booksellers shut out of the all-male Booksellers’ League, is an organization in which people can come together to define goals, develop leadership, further communication and organize activities to benefit women. The WNBA celebrates its continuous commitment to improving the status, image, and role of women in the world of books. Believing that books have power, WNBA has made it possible for people engaged in various book activities to help broaden their part in the book world, and to know one another as individuals with common problems, aspirations, and goals. Currently, there are chapters in Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, San Francisco and Washington.
Hamburg has expertise in all aspects of copyright and trademark law, both in litigation and in the transactional area. She has expertise in assisting clients in a broad range of industries, including authors and publishers. She is also a proponent for the advancement of women generally and in the legal profession. Hamburg is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (former member of Committee on Enhancing Diversity in the Profession and Committee on Copyright and Literary Property), and the International Trademark Association, in which she has held a number of leadership roles. Hamburg is a frequent speaker and writer on intellectual property topics and has addressed other publishing groups, including the Association of American Publishers. She has a regular column in the WNBA Newsletter (NY Chapter).
She earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1990, where she was a member and editor of the Columbia Law Review, and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Wellesley College in 1987.
Hamburg works out of the firm’s New York City office. She may be reached via email at jhamburg@nmmlaw.com.
