New York, NY (April 18, 2011) – Jeanne M. Hamburg, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A. and Chair of its Internet Law Group, will present a seminar entitled “Trademark and Copyright Issues on the Web” to attorneys at One Grand Central Place (former Lincoln Building) located at 60 East 42nd Street, New York, NY, from 8:30 to 10:30 am, on April 28, 2011. The Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Seminars is a gratis service provided to attorney clients and prospective clients of Hudson Valley Bank. To register, contact Hudson Valley Bank CLE Administrator Gisel Arias by phone at (212) 400-6022 or by e-mail at garias@hvbank.com.
Hamburg will discuss how businesses can handle the most common copyright and trademark issues they will likely encounter on the Internet, including cybersquatting and purchases of key words that are third party trademarks from search engines, such as Google. She will also set forth what use of third parties’ online materials is permitted under the doctrine of fair use in the Copyright Act and how the courts interpret copyright and trademark law issues arising from hyperlinking and framing. Lastly, she will speak about the impact of click-through license agreements on rights to content online and how to use the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to enforce rights in content online.
“All businesses with an Internet presence, even if just a web site, must be mindful of the impact of copyright and trademark laws on the way they do business on the web and how they can enforce their IP rights on the Internet ,” said Hamburg.
Hamburg has expertise in all aspects of trademark and copyright law, handling litigation and transactions. Resident in the firm’s New York City office, she assists clients in a broad range of industries with their intellectual property needs.
In 2009 and in 2010, Hamburg was recognized as a New York Super Lawyer® for Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Litigation. Only five percent of New York lawyers are given this honor.
Hamburg earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1990, where she was a member and editor of the Columbia Law Review, and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Wellesley College in 1987.
