Bridgewater, NJ (October 20, 2010)– Nicholas F. Pellitta, a Member of the Bridgewater-based law firm of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., participated in a three-day program entitled “Deposition Skills Program: Taking Effective Depositions,” which was hosted by the Institute for Professional Education (IPE) at Rutgers School of Law -Newark. The event was held on Friday, October 8, 15, and 16, 2010.

The three-day mock deposition program focused on developing and enhancing the skills necessary to effectively conduct and defend a deposition. The seminar combined lectures with active participation in exercises. Participants explored effective methods of obtaining information and memorializing it for use in litigation or at trial. Exercises and lectures focused on witness preparation, questioning, using exhibits, obtaining admissions, theory testing, how to use depositions at trial, and handling argumentative opposing counsel.

A resident of Flemington, Pellitta has substantial experience in a variety of legal areas in both federal and state courts. He has also represented colleges and universities for 20 years in areas such as tort claim defense, police litigation, civil rights and student discipline.

Pellitta currently serves as a Vice Chairman of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, and was previously Legal Counsel to the Chamber. He is also President of the Hunterdon Prevention Resources (HPR) Board of Trustees.

Pellitta obtained his J.D. from New York Law School in 1985 and received his B.A. from Rutgers College in 1982.

With the adoption of a mandatory continuing legal education requirement in New Jersey, the Institute for Professional Education at Rutgers School of Law–Newark was created to offer high-quality, cutting-edge educational programs to members of the Bar; develop appropriate certificate programs; and provide alumni and current law students with additional resources to develop professional skills and networking opportunities. The IPE offers a variety of program formats, including seminars, practical workshops and in-house programs for law firms, corporate law departments, non-profit organizations and government agencies. They include half-day, full-day, multi-day sessions, and are planned and coordinated by IPE staff to identify topics, content, and presenters. In addition to programs addressing substantive areas and legal procedures, IPE offers programs in legal ethics.
