How Is Your Practice Different From Other Trusts and Estate Lawyers or a General Attorney Who Does Wills and Real Estate? [VIDEO]

Shana Siegel, Chair of the Norris McLaughlin Elder Care & Special Needs Law Practice Group, answers your questions. This video addresses how Shana's practice at Norris McLaughlin differs from other trusts and estate lawyers or a general attorney who handles wills and real estate.

Peace of Mind is a video blog production series from the Elder Care & Special Needs Law Practice Group at Norris McLaughlin, P.A. For related topics and more information on Shana Siegel, Norris McLaughlin, or the legal services we offer regarding elder care and special needs, visit www.norriselderlaw.com.

Hi, I’m Shana Siegel and I’m the Chair of the Elder Care and Special Needs Group at Norris McLaughlin and today we’re talking about the scope of our practice.

How is your practice different from other trusts and estate lawyers or a general attorney who does wills and real estate?

We focus on serving clients dealing with aging, illness, and disability. In addition to the attorneys in our group, we have a Geriatric Social Worker and a Medicaid Specialist. Each member of our team has decades of experience and deep knowledge in the programs that impact our clients: Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and the VA. The rules for those programs are complex and they’re constantly changing. Many well-meaning general practitioners have gaps in their knowledge and that can really impact the clients, so you really need to talk to a specialist.

We’re firmly entrenched in the long-term care community. We work on a daily basis with financial advisors, accountants, facilities, and service providers. We can build a team to address your comprehensive needs. If we don’t know the answer to your question, we’ll find somebody who does.

    About Shana Siegel

Shana Siegel concentrates her practice in the area of elder law, focusing on representing seniors, individuals with special needs, and their families in connection with life care planning, public benefits, trust and estate planning, and long-term care advocacy.

As one of the few Certified Elder Law Attorneys in northern New Jersey to be certified by the National Elder Law Foundation, Shana has extensive experience in probate and estate administration, asset preservation, supplemental and special needs trusts, planning for disability, guardianship and estate litigation, resident rights, health care decision making, Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance appeals.

She has been involved in health and long-term care issues for over 25 years. She is a past president of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, where she regularly met with legislators and government officials on behalf of the elder law bar and their clients. In 2015, Shana was invited to join the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys’ prestigious Council of Advanced Practitioners.

Additionally, Shana is a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association, the New Jersey State Bar Elder & Disability Law Section, and the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association. Shana is active with the Long Term Living Association, several local chambers of commerce, and Jewish philanthropies.

About the Norris McLaughlin Elder Care & Special Needs Law Practice Group

Our experienced elder care and special needs law attorneys go beyond traditional planning to address the needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities by assisting them in long-term care planning and advocacy, guardianships and conservatorships, and end-of-life planning. We address the financial burden of the cost of care by advocating for our clients and maximizing their eligibility for government benefits, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans’ benefits. We also assist our clients in locating appropriate care, as well as coordinating private and public resources to finance that care. Our services blend estate planning with long-term care planning, as we believe that estate planning is not just about what happens after you die, but how you will live.

To better serve our clients, our elder law group includes Lori Kayne, Geriatric Social Worker, and Laura Ocskay, Medicaid Specialist.

In many complex matters, especially those involving high-assets, we have the advantage of being able to work with attorneys from our other practice areas including those with experience in litigation, corporate, tax, real estate, immigration, family law, and estate planning.

If you have any questions about this post or any other related matters, please feel free to email Shana at ssiegel@norris-law.com.
