    Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., and Chair of its Health Care & Life Sciences Practice Group, has been named to the Advisory Council of the School of American Ballet (SAB) in New York City.

    For over 30 years, the SAB’s Advisory Council has promoted awareness of the school and increased its influence throughout the country. The Council comprises of more than 50 members with a common passion for dance, who meet twice a year to help inform the continued growth and provide scholarship support for young dancers.     Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., and Chair of its Health Care & Life Sciences Practice Group, presented “Medical Record Privacy Rights of Students Under FERPA and HIPAA” to the MidAtlantic College Nurses Association at their annual meeting on June 6 at Lafayette College in Easton.  She discussed the applicability of FERPA and HIPAA to the medical records of adult students treated in their college’s health center, in local hospitals, and in private medical practices, as well as the ability of parents to obtain medical treatment information about their student.

    Jarva Weiss focuses her practice in all areas of health care regulation including compliance with the Stark, Anti-Kickback and False Claims statutes, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement regulations, HIPAA and HITECH requirements, and Joint Commission standards.  She has designed numerous compliance programs and counsels clients on compliance matters.  Her practice also includes the structuring of mergers, acquisitions, and strategic affiliations of health and health-related businesses and the development of imaging centers and ambulatory surgery centers.

    Sandra Jarva Weiss Speaks on Health Care Reform at Lafayette College

    Allentown, PA (April 11, 2011) – Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino, the Pennsylvania office of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., spoke at Lafayette College on April 7, 2011 to the “Industry, Strategy and Policy” class that is a part of the Policy Studies Department taught by W. Mark Crain, a William E. Simon Professor of Political Economy and Chair of the department.The course emphasizes practical applications that lie at the intersection of business and policy, the role of government in each particular business sector and the challenges facing each sector.

    “I taught the healthcare industry portion of this course. The focus of my presentation was on the new healthcare reform legislation Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and how this will affect the delivery of healthcare in the United States as well as the regulatory environment in which healthcare is delivered,” explained Jarva Weiss.

    Jarva Weiss has been practicing health care law for more than 20 years, and as Chair of the Pennsylvania Office’s Health Care Group, has extensive experience in all areas of health care regulation. She has designed numerous compliance programs and counsels clients on compliance with the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Stark Statute. She has counseled clients on federal and state patient privacy laws and Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement requirements. Jarva Weiss has extensive practical experience from having served as in-house counsel for a large teaching hospital system.

    Sandra Jarva Weiss Promoted to Chair of Pennsylvania Office Health Care Group

    Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of Tallman Hudders & Sorrentino, the Pennsylvania office of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., was elected to the Board of Directors of the State Theatre Center for the Arts, where she will serve for three years.

    The State Theatre Center for the Arts is an award winning theatre located in Easton, PA. Opened in 1926 on the vaudeville circuit, the theatre is a non-profit, member-supported performing arts center featuring the hottest national and local shows, as well as a variety of amazing talent and entertainment. The center for the arts offers acting camp and other arts and educational opportunities for local youth. The State Theatre annually hosts the Freddy Awards, recognizing significant accomplishments in high school musical theatre televised live on WFMZ Channel 69.

    “I look forward to engaging in long term planning for the theatre. This center offers a unique and valuable contribution to the arts and entertainment culture of the Lehigh Valley.
