Jeanne Hamburg to Participate in Panel at NYSBA
Intellectual Property Law Section’s Annual Meeting
New York, NY (January 20, 2010) – Jeanne M. Hamburg, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will participate in a panel entitled “Ethics Update: 2009 - A Year in Transition” at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Hilton New York. The panel will be discussing the impact on IP practitioners of New York State’s new ethics rules which became effective in April, 2009. Hamburg’s presentation will address the ethical issues posed by the conduct of trademark investigations. Other panelists will discuss those issues arising from IP due diligence during mergers and acquisitions and from trademark searches.
The theme for the Intellectual Property Law Section meeting will be “2010 - An Internet and IP Odyssey: Navigating Bold New Challenges Along the Journey.” It will explore the bolder world of IP that lawyers and companies face, including issues raised by the manipulation of digital images in copyright, questions of secondary copyright and trademark liability, related domestic and international liability and enforcement issues, and related updates on recent development and case law. The Intellectual Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association introduces members of the Association to the interesting and growing areas of law which make up Intellectual Property Law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing and Internet intellectual property law issues. It provides educational programs, other activities and invites the participation of attorneys, law students and non-lawyer members of the business community. Members can also take advantage of substantive legal research through Law Watch search results, to discuss issues and ideas in discussion groups, and to participate fully in the e-community of the site.
Hamburg has expertise in all aspects of trademark and copyright law, both in litigation and in the transactional area. Resident in the firm’s New York City office, she assists clients in a broad range of industries with their IP needs. In 2009, Jeanne was recognized as a New York Super Lawyer® for Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Litigation. Only five percent of New York lawyers are given this honor.
Hamburg earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1990, where she was a member and editor of the Columbia Law Review, and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Wellesley College in 1987.
