Jeanne Hamburg To Serve as INTA Faculty Member for Trademark Basics Course

New York, NY (October 1, 2009) – Jeanne M. Hamburg, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., will participate in the International Trademark Association’s (“INTA’s”) U.S. Trademark Basics Crash Course Program, as a faculty member. The program will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at INTA’s offices, 655 Third Avenue, 10th Floor, New York, NY.

The program is for new attorneys, individuals new to trademark law and anyone who wants a refresher course on U.S. trademark basics. Hamburg’s topic will be “Policing and Enforcing Trademarks.” She will discuss trademark-policing strategies, including effective use of watch services, Internet searching, monitoring and private investigators. She will also cover the pros and cons of federal litigation, state litigation, Uniform Domain Name Recovery Proceedings (“UDRP”) and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (“TTAB”) proceedings. Other topics to be addressed will be “Trademark Fundamentals,” “Searching, Clearing and Registering Trademarks,” and “Counseling and Transactional Issues.” For more information or to register for the program, visit www.inta.org.

INTA is a not-for-profit membership association of more than 5,900 trademark owners and professionals, from more than 190 countries, dedicated to the support and advancement of trademarks and related intellectual property as elements of fair and effective national and international commerce. The Association was founded in 1878 by 17 merchants and manufacturers who saw a need for an organization “to protect and promote the rights of trademark owners, to secure useful legislation and to give aid and encouragement to all efforts for the advancement and observance of trademark rights.” After 130 years, INTA continues its mission to represent the trademark community, shape public policy and advance professional knowledge and development.

Hamburg has expertise in all aspects of trademark and copyright law, both in litigation and in the transactional area. Resident in the firm’s New York City office, she assists clients in a broad range of industries with their IP needs.

Hamburg litigates trademark, cybersquatting and copyright cases through trial. Additionally, she has recovered domain names for clients in many UDRP cases, and prosecuted and defended numerous opposition and cancellation proceedings and ex parte appeals in the TTAB.

In the transactional area, Hamburg is experienced in trademark and copyright licensing, traditional print and online publishing, software development, web site development, content licenses and electronic subscriptions. She counsels clients on intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions. She is expert in trademark and copyright clearance, prosecution and enforcement. Hamburg is a frequent speaker and writer on intellectual property topics.

Hamburg earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1990, where she was a member and editor of the Columbia Law Review, and her B.A., magna cum laude, in English from Wellesley College in 1987.
