Laskey Elected Chairperson of SCBP Board of Directors
James H. Laskey , a member of the Somerville law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A. has been elected Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP), effective January 1, 2008.
As Chairperson, Laskey will lead the Partnership's Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and work closely with the other Directors and with the Partnership’s President/CEO and other professional staff.
“Jim Laskey will carry on the tradition of innovative leadership that has been the hallmark of past chairs of the Business Partnership,” says SCBP Interim President and CEO Thomas D. Sharpe. “His professional experience in legislative and business issues comes at a key time as we address major projects including Green Design and sustainability, continued funding of the Route 22 Boulevard project, enhanced educational opportunities for youth and business people, and new initiatives to make Somerset County and New Jersey a better place to live and do business.”
The SCBP is a pro-active affiliation linking leaders of business, government, education and non-profits. Operating on the principles of leadership, opportunity and results, the Partnership addresses issues involving economic and community development, small business, the workforce, tourism and cultural arts, public affairs, and the networking and educational needs of its members. The SCBP is a dynamic voice representing vital interests of its members. Its diverse composition of investors and members allows it to integrate the agendas of all organizations working toward similar economic, educational, and quality- of-life goals. The mission of the SCBP is to foster balanced economic growth, preserve quality of life, protect the environment, and meet social needs now and in the future.
A resident of Montgomery Township, Laskey concentrates his practice in transactional matters and in administrative and government regulatory law, including public utility , antitrust , health care and telecommunications issues. He regularly represents clients before state and federal administrative agencies, particularly the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. Laskey is also a registered legislative agent for New Jersey legislative activities. He has substantial experience in corporate transactions, in terms both of negotiation and drafting of agreements, and also in the area of antitrust analysis and premerger notification under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act. Laskey also regularly handles municipal franchising and zoning matters where the application involves specialized technologies and equipment.
Laskey was Chair of the Public Utility Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association from 1997-1998. In addition, Laskey is a current member of the New Jersey State Bar Association (Public Utility Law Section), American Bar Association (Antitrust and Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law Sections), and Federal Communications Bar Association. Laskey appears in the Communications Law and Energy Law sections of The Best Lawyers In America, as well as the Utilities and Business/Corporate sections of New Jersey Super Lawyers. He earned his B.S. from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his J.D. from Yale University.
